The Magpul Tactical Gear Guide: Stocks, Grips, PMAGs, Slings & the Rest
The complete reference for Magpul's lineup across AR-15, AK, Glock, and pistol platforms. In stock at TakTactical, ships in 1-2 business days from our US warehouse.
Why Magpul
Magpul is the only tactical accessory brand with a product line that touches almost every platform you'd actually shoot — AR-15, AR-10, AK-47/AK-74, Glock, SIG, 1911, Remington 870, and beyond. Founded by Marine Corps veterans in 1999, they built their reputation on the PMAG (which is now the de-facto standard 5.56 magazine in the US military) and expanded into stocks, grips, slings, sights, and beyond.
The brand's appeal is consistency: a Magpul MOE grip from 2010 fits a 2026 lower receiver. A PMAG 30 from any production run drops cleanly into any in-spec AR-15. They use the same polymer formulation, the same color-matching tolerances, and the same lifetime warranty across every product. If you can identify one thing as the "Magpul aesthetic," it's that everything matches.
This guide walks through every major Magpul product category we stock, with recommendations by use case (defensive, range, competition, restricted-state) and the specific SKUs that work for each platform.
Part 1: AR-15 Stocks
The stock is the single largest comfort upgrade on an AR-15. Factory stocks are designed to fit no one well — they're sized to be acceptable to everyone. A proper Magpul stock fits your length-of-pull, cheek weld, and recoil management within minutes of installation.
DT Carbine Stock (Workhorse)
The Magpul DT Carbine Stock (Mil-Spec, Black) is the entry into Magpul stocks. Six positions, integrated QD sling sockets on both sides, rubber buttpad for grip on body armor, and a snag-free profile. Fits any mil-spec carbine receiver extension. Sub-$50 price point. If you've never upgraded the factory stock on your AR, this is the place to start.
MOE SL Carbine Stock (Recommended)
The Magpul MOE SL Carbine Stock (Mil-Spec, Black) is the popular middle option. Improved internal frictioning so the stock doesn't rattle on the buffer tube, low-profile cheek weld designed for use with eye-relief-friendly optics, and dual M-LOK slots on the underside for attaching a hard cheek riser if needed. Our highest-volume stock with 1,177+ in stock.
If you want OD Green instead of black, the MOE SL-S Mil-Spec ODG is the OD-finished variant — useful for FDE/OD tactical builds where you want the stock to match the rest of the rifle.
Universal Carbine Stock
The Magpul Universal Carbine Stock (Black) — also in FDE and ODG — fits BOTH mil-spec AND commercial receiver extensions. Most AR-15s use mil-spec but some budget and older AR-15s use commercial. If you're not sure which your rifle has, buy the Universal — it works either way.
SL Stock for HK94/MP5
The Magpul SL Stock for HK94/MP5 (Black) is the specialized stock for HK roller-delayed platforms — HK94, MP5, SP5, and aftermarket clones. Cheekweld optimized for tube-style receivers, mounts to standard HK rear stock pin.
MOE SL Rubber Butt-Pad
If you want to add a softer recoil pad or extend length-of-pull on an existing Magpul SL stock, the MOE SL Rubber Butt-Pad (0.70") adds 0.7 inches of length and softens recoil meaningfully on .308 or 5.56 platforms.
Part 2: Pistol Grips (AR-15, AK, 1911, Glock RXM)
The grip is the cheapest upgrade with the highest comfort return — typically $20-25 and a five-minute install. Match the grip angle to your shooting style.
AR-15: MOE vs K2 vs K2+ Geometry
Magpul makes two main AR-15 grip profiles, each with multiple finishes:
- MOE AR Grip — classic A2-replacement angle (~14°), textured polymer, internal storage core. Best for traditional shooters who like the factory grip angle. Available in Black, FDE, and OD Green.
- MOE K2 AR Grip — steeper near-vertical angle (~10°), better for SBR or PCC builds where you're running a short stock and your wrist is naturally forward. The MOE K2 Black is the most-stocked grip in our entire store with 2,289+ units on hand.
- MOE K2+ AR Grip — same K2 geometry but with overmolded rubber wrap for grip in wet conditions or with gloves. MOE K2+ Black — 2,442+ in stock.
If you're between MOE and K2: try K2 first. The vertical angle works better for modern shooting stances (thumbs-forward, elbow down) and you'll see why most competition shooters use it.
AK-47/74 Grips
The factory AK pistol grip is the industry's most universally hated grip. It's thin, angles poorly for modern stances, and offers no texture. Two Magpul upgrades fix this:
- Magpul MOE AK 47 Grip (Black) — direct drop-in replacement for AK-47/74 lower. Same install bolt, takes five minutes.
- Magpul MOE SL AK Grip (FDE) — premium version with SL contour for a more aggressive shooting grip. FDE for coyote/desert tactical builds.
1911 Grip Panels
For 1911 owners, the Magpul MOE 1911 Grip Panels (TSP, Black) are direct-replacement grip panels with the aggressive TSP texture pattern. Replaces standard 1911 grip screws. Five-minute install.
Magpul EHG RG9 — For Glock RXM Frames
The Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG) RG9 series fits the Magpul/Glock collaboration RXM frames. Two sizes:
- Magpul EHG RG9 Grip RXM Compact (Black) — for compact-size RXM frames (Glock 19-equivalent grip length).
- Magpul EHG RG9 Grip RXM Sub-Compact (Black) — for sub-compact RXM frames (Glock 26-equivalent grip length).
Part 3: PMAG — The Magazine That Built Magpul
The PMAG (Polymer Magazine) is what put Magpul on the map. The original PMAG launched in 2007 and within five years was the most-sold AR-15 magazine in the United States. Today the M3 (third generation) is the current production version — improved feed lip geometry, anti-tilt follower, and reinforced bolt-catch interface that survives bolt-drop on an empty mag without breaking.
5.56 / .223 AR-15 PMAGs
- Magpul PMAG GEN M3 5.56 30rd with Window (Black) — current generation, with the side window for round-count visibility. Our top-selling rifle magazine with 11,599+ in stock. Drop-free from any in-spec AR-15 lower.
- Magpul PMAG MOE 5.56 30rd with Window — previous generation MOE, still serviceable for range/training mags. Slightly cheaper than M3 if you're buying in bulk.
- Magpul PMAG 20 GEN M3 (5.56) — 20-round capacity for restricted states or for bench-rest precision work. 978+ in stock.
.300 Blackout PMAG
Running a .300 BLK upper? You need dedicated .300 magazines. The Magpul PMAG M3 .300 BLK 30rd (Black) has rib markings on the spine so you'll never confuse it with 5.56 in a mixed mag pouch. .300 BLK will physically chamber from a 5.56 magazine but feed angle is wrong and causes malfunctions.
AK PMAGs (7.62x39)
The Magpul PMAG 20 AK (7.62x39, 20rd, Black) is the 20-round AK option for restricted states or for prone shooting. Same polymer reliability as the AR PMAG family, AK-pattern follower and feed lips. 443+ in stock.
Glock PMAGs
Magpul makes drop-in magazines for Glock 9mm pistols too:
- Magpul PMAG for Glock 19 (10rd, Black) — 10-round restricted-state version. 6,017+ in stock.
- Magpul PMAG for Glock 26 (12rd, Black) — sub-compact magazine for G26.
- Magpul PMAG D-50 GL9 for Glock 17 (50rd) — 50-round drum magazine for full-size Glock 9mm. Range fun and PCC carbine application. 909+ in stock.
Precision Rifle / AICS PMAGs (.308)
For bolt-action precision rifles with AICS-pattern magwells (Bergara, Tikka T3X TAC, Ruger Precision Rifle, etc.):
- Magpul PMAG 5 AC 7.62x51 AICS (5rd, Black) — standard 5-round AICS pattern. 2,305+ in stock.
- Magpul PMAG 10 AC 7.62x51 AICS (10rd) — extended 10-round for precision rifle work. 2,040+ in stock.
- Magpul PMAG 5 AC L AICS Magnum (5rd, Black) — long-action AICS magazine for magnum chamberings (.300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua-shorter, etc.).
PMAG Accessories
- Magpul Ranger Plate for PMAG M2/MOE (3-pack, Black) — extended floorplate that makes mag extraction from a pouch easier. Universal fit for M2/MOE generation.
- Magpul PMAG GEN M3 Minus 5rd (7.62, 3-pack) — capacity-limiter inserts to convert 20-round 7.62 mags to 15-round (or similar) for restricted-state compliance.
Part 4: Slings & Sling Hardware
If you run a rifle longer than five minutes, you want a quality sling. Magpul makes three families, each with QD or fixed-loop options:
MS1 — The Standard
The Magpul MS1 Sling (2-Point Adjustable, Black) is the simplest, most reliable Magpul sling. Two-point design, adjustable from rifle-length to carbine-tight via a slider buckle, fixed loops at both ends. If you're new to slings, this is the right starting point. Available in Coyote for FDE/desert builds. 1,068+ in stock in black.
MS1 QDM — Quick-Detach Mountable
The Magpul MS1 QDM Sling (Black) uses QD push-button attachments at both ends — letting you remove the sling instantly without unthreading anything. Best for shooters who frequently transition between range and storage, or who clean their rifle weekly.
MS4 Dual QD — Two-Point or Single-Point
The Magpul MS4 Dual QD Gen 2 (Black) converts between 2-point and 1-point configurations in seconds. Useful for CQB-style training where a 1-point gives you maximum maneuverability, then back to 2-point for general use. Our highest-volume sling at 3,653+ in stock.
QD Attachment Hardware
- Magpul RSA QD Rail Sling Attachment — for any Picatinny rail. 2,315+ in stock.
- Magpul MS1 Single-Point QD Adapter (Black) — converts an MS1 from 2-point to 1-point at the receiver-end attachment.
Part 5: Backup Iron Sights — MBUS
Even on a red-dot rifle, backup iron sights (BUIS) are essential. Electronic optics fail; iron sights don't. Magpul's MBUS (Magpul Back-Up Sight) is the standard polymer flip-up BUIS — locks down flat on the rail when not needed, deploys with a thumb flick.
- Magpul MBUS Gen 2 Front Flip-Up Sight (OD Green) — picatinny front sight, A2-style protected post.
- Magpul MBUS Gen 2 Rear Flip-Up Sight (OD Green) — picatinny rear sight, dual-aperture (CQB + precision).
Pair the front and rear together — they're sold separately. Black versions are also typically available; check the product page for current colors.
Part 6: M-LOK Accessories & Bipod
Most modern AR-15s ship with M-LOK handguards (replacing older KeyMod and quad-rail systems). M-LOK lets you attach accessories at specific slots without permanent rail addition.
- Magpul Bipod (M-LOK, Black) — direct M-LOK-mount bipod. No QD interface needed. Spring-loaded legs, polymer construction, lighter than typical Harris-style bipods. 1,231+ in stock.
- Magpul AFG-2 M-LOK Adapter Rail (Black) — adapter to mount Picatinny-spec AFG-2 angled foregrip on M-LOK handguard.
- Magpul M-LOK Aluminum Rail Section (7 Slots) — adds a 7-slot picatinny section to M-LOK handguard. For mounting older picatinny-only accessories.
- Magpul M-LOK Rail Cover Type 1 (FDE) — covers unused M-LOK slots to protect against dirt and prevent skin contact with hot rails. FDE color for desert/tactical builds.

FAQ
Is Magpul made in the USA?
Yes. Magpul Industries is headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The majority of their polymer products (PMAGs, stocks, grips, MBUS sights, M-LOK accessories) are manufactured in their US facilities. The company moved manufacturing from Colorado to Wyoming and Texas in 2014 in response to Colorado's magazine capacity laws.
What's the difference between MOE, M2, and M3 generations?
MOE is the second generation, M3 is the current third generation. M3 improved the feed lip geometry, added the anti-tilt follower, and reinforced the bolt-catch interface so the magazine survives empty bolt-drop without breaking. For carry/duty mags, always buy M3. For range/training mags, MOE is still serviceable and slightly cheaper.
Will Magpul stocks fit my AR-15?
If your AR-15 has a mil-spec receiver extension (buffer tube), yes — all Magpul DT, MOE SL, and Universal stocks fit. The Universal stock fits both mil-spec AND commercial buffer tubes. If you're not sure, measure the buffer tube outer diameter: mil-spec is 1.148", commercial is 1.168". Most aftermarket AR-15s use mil-spec; some budget brands use commercial.
Are PMAGs better than aluminum GI magazines?
For modern use, yes. PMAG polymer construction is more durable than aluminum GI mags (no dents from drops), the M3 feed geometry is more reliable, and the anti-tilt follower prevents the most common cause of failure-to-feed malfunctions. Aluminum GI magazines work fine; PMAGs work better. The US Marine Corps standardized on the PMAG in 2017.
How long do PMAGs last?
With normal use (a few range trips per month) PMAGs typically last 10+ years. The polymer is UV-stabilized and doesn't degrade in storage. Springs can be replaced if they ever weaken. Magpul backs PMAGs with a lifetime warranty. The most common failure mode is mechanical damage (drops onto concrete, vehicle weight) — not wear from normal use.
Can I use a Magpul AK grip on a Saiga or Vepr?
Yes for most variants. Magpul AK grips fit all standard AK-47 and AK-74 platforms including most Saiga and Vepr (with stamped or milled receivers using the standard grip screw pattern). If you have an unusual variant — bullpup conversion, AMD-65 with side-folding stock interfering with grip area — verify compatibility before ordering.
Are Magpul products legal in restricted states?
Most Magpul products (stocks, grips, slings, sights, handguards) are unrestricted nationwide. Standard-capacity PMAGs (over 10 rounds) are restricted in CA, CT, HI, MA, NJ, NY, RI, WA and others. For restricted states, Magpul offers 10-round and 20-round options — see the PMAG 20 GEN M3 5.56 specifically. We will not ship over-capacity magazines to restricted states.
