Built around a full-tang 1095 Cro-Van high-carbon steel core, the BK18 holds an edge through hard use and re-sharpens easily in the field. The black epoxy powder coat resists rust and reduces glare, while the Becker Grivory handle delivers a secure grip in wet, gloved, or muddy conditions. Yes. The BK18 is built from a single piece of 1095 Cro-Van steel running the full length of the knife, from blade tip through the handle. Full-tang construction is the strongest possible blade architecture and is essential for hard-use field tasks.
1095 Cro-Van is a high-carbon tool steel with added chromium and vanadium for edge retention and toughness. It's the same steel used in KA-BAR's combat blades and is favored by knife makers because it holds a sharp edge under hard use yet re-sharpens easily in the field with a simple stone or steel rod.
1095 Cro-Van is a high-carbon steel, so it can rust if left wet. The factory black epoxy coating provides significant protection, but we recommend wiping the blade dry after wet use and applying a thin coat of mineral oil or gun oil for long-term storage. Don't store inside a damp leather sheath.
Fixed-blade knife laws vary widely by state, county, and city. Some jurisdictions restrict blade length, open vs. concealed carry, or fixed blades entirely in public spaces. Check your local statutes before carrying. We do not ship to jurisdictions where fixed blades are prohibited.
