🔧 Mil-Spec or Commercial? This is the MIL-SPEC version (1.148" tube diameter). Make sure your AR-15 has a mil-spec buffer tube — most quality AR-15s do, but some budget brands use commercial-spec tubes (1.168") which won't fit.

About the Magpul MOE Carbine Stock
The MOE (Magpul Original Equipment) Carbine Stock is the most popular aftermarket AR-15 stock for one simple reason: it's everything mil-spec M4 should have been from the factory, at a price that fits any build. Solid one-piece reinforced polymer construction eliminates the rattle and creak of the issued buttstock, while a generous A-frame profile gives you a stable, repeatable cheek weld for both standing and prone shooting.
Six length-of-pull positions adjust from 10.5" (LE-short) to 13.5" (long) with a recessed release lever you operate by feel — no looking down. The reinforced polymer construction holds up to range abuse and patrol-rifle wear for years. Magpul's signature aggressive rubber buttpad gives a sticky shoulder lockup with body armor, plate carriers, or plain shirts. Compatible with standard mil-spec receiver extensions found on most quality AR-15 builds.
Why AR-15 Shooters Choose the MOE
-
Eliminates mil-spec rattle. The factory M4 buttstock wobbles by design. The MOE locks down tight for a solid, repeatable cheek weld.
-
6-position adjustment. Quick collapse-to-extend without a tool — adapts to body armor, shooting positions, and different shooters.
-
A-frame cheek weld. Higher profile than the standard M4 lets you align your eye behind the optic without straining.
-
Aggressive rubber buttpad. Sticks to the shoulder pocket — won't slip on smooth nylon plate carriers or rain jackets.
-
Built in USA by Magpul. Reinforced polymer construction backed by Magpul's reputation for products that just work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mil-spec vs commercial — which do I have?
The MIL-SPEC buffer tube is 1.148" in outside diameter; commercial-spec is 1.168". Mil-spec tubes are extruded from forged aluminum and stronger; commercial were spec'd for cheaper budget rifles. 95%+ of quality AR-15s from BCM, Daniel Defense, Aero Precision, LWRC, Geissele, S&W, Ruger AR-556, etc. ship with mil-spec tubes. The easiest test: try to slide a commercial stock on — if it's loose, you have mil-spec.
Will this work on a pistol AR / SBR?
For pistol braces, you need a Magpul SL or SL-K with a brace adapter — the MOE is a "stock" classed under federal law, so attaching it to a pistol AR converts it to a short-barreled rifle requiring NFA paperwork. For a SBR with proper ATF approval, the MOE works perfectly.
Can I add a QD sling swivel?
Yes — the MOE has integrated QD sling cups on both left and right sides. Just press in a standard QD sling swivel (sold separately, see our Magpul M-LOK QD Sling Mount in the cross-link section).
How does the MOE compare to the SL or CTR?
The MOE is Magpul's value option — same proven A-frame profile and aggressive rubber pad, slightly less refined controls than the SL. The SL Carbine Stock has a sleeker profile with friction lock and is the upgrade pick. CTR adds a friction lock for tighter lockup but at higher cost. The MOE handles 95% of duty/range/competition use perfectly.
What's the warranty?
Magpul backs the MOE Stock with their limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship to the original purchaser.
