Magpul Tactical Gear Buyer's Guide
The Complete Magpul Tactical Gear Buyer's Guide
A Florida tactical shop's honest breakdown of the Magpul lineup — magazines, grips, stocks, slings, and more. Updated May 2026.
Why Magpul Dominates Tactical Gear
Magpul Industries started in 1999 with a simple idea: a polymer pull-loop that helps you grab a 30-round AR-15 magazine from a chest rig. That "magpul" became the company name, and over 25 years they've built the gold standard for tactical polymer accessories — PMAGs are the most-used rifle magazine in the world, MOE furniture transformed the AR-15 aftermarket, and their testing program (drop, sand, salt spray, environmental) sets the industry benchmark.
What makes Magpul different from competitors: every product is tested to military-grade standards before release. They build for the worst-case shooter — sand, mud, freezing cold, blazing heat — and you get the benefit. Their lifetime warranty isn't marketing fluff; we've replaced exactly one Magpul product in 6 years of selling them, and that was a baseplate that cracked from being run over by a truck.
Magpul Magazines: PMAG vs AMAG Comparison
This is the question we get most often: should I get the polymer PMAG or the aluminum AMAG? Here's the honest answer.
PMAG (Polymer) — For 95% of Shooters
The PMAG is what made Magpul famous. Polymer body, anti-tilt follower, stainless steel feed lips. Lighter than aluminum, won't rust, won't dent. Tested through countless military deployments. Available in every platform: AR-15, AR-10, Glock 9mm, SIG P320, AK-47.
Choose PMAG if: you're a range shooter, EDC/CCW user, competition shooter, hunter, or new gun owner. Same reliability as aluminum at a lower price point.
Top PMAG picks:
- PMAG 30 GEN M2 MOE — $12.30 — Classic AR-15 30-round, indestructible
- PMAG 30 GEN M3 — $14.20 — Upgraded compatibility (HK416, SCAR, multi-platform)
- PMAG 17 GL9 — $14.20 — 17-round 9mm for Glock 17/19X/34
- PMAG 15 GL9 — $14.20 — 15-round 9mm for Glock 19/19X/23/45 (flush fit)
- PMAG 10 LR/SR M3 .308 — $21.80 — AR-10/SR25/M110 precision magazine
- PMAG 10 GEN M3 5.56 — $14.20 — Restricted-state AR-15 (CA/NY/NJ/MA legal)
AMAG (Aluminum Alloy) — For Duty Use & Holster Wear
The AMAG line is newer (released 2024). Hardened aluminum body with stainless steel feed lips. Heavier than polymer but significantly more durable for high round counts, holster wear, harsh environments, and duty use. Currently available for SIG P320 and SIG P365 platforms.
Choose AMAG if: you carry daily for duty (LEO, security, military), shoot competition with high round counts (USPSA, IDPA), or operate in environments where polymer might fatigue.
Top AMAG picks:
- AMAG 17 SG9 (SIG P320 Full-Size) — $33.20 — Duty-grade 17-round for full-size P320
- AMAG 12 SG9 (SIG P365) — $31.30 — 12-round for SIG P365 EDC
- AMAG 10 SG9 (SIG P365) — $31.30 — 10-round restricted-state P365
Magpul AR-15 Foregrips: AFG vs MVG
Second-most-asked question. Both are M-LOK direct mount, both polymer, both 1.4 oz. The difference is geometry and shooting style.
AFG (Angled Foregrip) — Modern Push-Pull Stance
Angled forward at roughly 30°. Best for shooters who use a modern push-pull grip with the support hand farther down the handguard. Reduces wrist fatigue on long shooting sessions. Choice for competition and most newer shooters.
Magpul AFG M-LOK Angled Foregrip — $25.60
MVG (Vertical Grip) — Traditional C-Clamp Stance
Straight 90° vertical grip. Best for traditional shooters who use a C-clamp grip with the support hand wrapped around the grip. Definitive hand stop, pull-into-the-shoulder leverage. Choice for duty operators and shooters who learned with old VFGs.
Magpul MOE MVG M-LOK Vertical Grip — $21.80
Verdict: AFG is more versatile for most shooters and works with both modern and traditional stances. MVG is better for classic operators and CQB-focused setups. Try both if you can — most ranges will let you handle a few rifles to compare grip styles.
Magpul Slings & Sling Hardware
Slings are easy to overlook but the wrong sling makes a great rifle frustrating. Magpul's sling line covers everything from $14 QD swivels to full operator-grade two-point setups.
- Magpul M-LOK QD Sling Mount — $18.95 — Steel QD socket adapter for any M-LOK rail
- Magpul Push-Button QD Swivel — $14.20 — Standard MIL-STD QD swivel, 360° rotation
- Magpul MS1 Two-Point Sling — $35 — Most popular general-purpose Magpul sling
- Magpul MS3 Multi-Mission Sling — $65 — Converts between 1-point and 2-point configurations
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Magpul products legitimate? Some online stores sell fakes.
Yes — every product we sell comes directly from Magpul's authorized distribution chain. We're not on eBay or Amazon Marketplace. We ship from our Florida warehouse where every box is verified. If you see Magpul products being sold for half-price on Facebook Marketplace, those are usually counterfeit imports.
Will Magpul magazines work in my non-AR-15 rifle?
Depends on the rifle. Magpul makes magazines for AR-15/M4 (5.56), AR-10/SR25 (.308), AK-47 (7.62x39), Glock 9mm, SIG P320, SIG P365, and several others. Always check the platform compatibility on the product page. If you're unsure, call (954) 487-9799 and we'll verify with Magpul's fitment chart.
Why are some Magpul products in OD Green or Coyote Brown more expensive?
Color variants are made in smaller batches than black. Magpul prices accordingly. Most products are $2-4 more in OD/FDE/Coyote vs black. The product itself is identical in function and durability.
Can I install Magpul accessories myself?
Yes — most Magpul products are designed for end-user installation with basic hand tools. M-LOK accessories need a T15 Torx wrench (often included). Pistol grips need a 5/32" Allen wrench. Stocks slide onto the buffer tube with no tools. The hardest install is buffer tube replacement, which requires a mil-spec wrench. We post install guides on our YouTube channel and you can always call us for help.
Does Magpul honor their lifetime warranty?
Yes. Magpul has one of the strongest warranties in the industry. Send the product back with a description of the issue and they'll replace it. We've processed exactly two warranty claims in 6 years — both were replaced within 2 weeks. Compare that to some "lifetime warranties" that require receipts and proof of registration.
Where does Magpul manufacture?
All Magpul products are made in the USA. They moved manufacturing to Wyoming and Texas in 2014 after the Colorado magazine ban — strong stance on Second Amendment that's reflected in everything they do. When you buy Magpul, you're supporting US manufacturing.
